Certified Healthy Workplace™

Why is the health and safety of your employees important to you? :
Health and Safety are important to us because we value our employees and we want them to create a great working environment for them!

What does your workplace health and safety program look like? Do you offer both components to employees?:
We have a health program in which we  focus on the whole person: mind and body. We offer different activities like volleyball and yoga to promote a health body, but we also schedule classes that give employees an opportunity to focus on other areas like financial and emotional well-being. We are in the beginning process of program focuses solely on safety for our employees as well.

How will you/do you know your program is successful?:
We know the program is working because employees are excited to participate. Additionally,  we have been working in conjunction with Health Links to implement  measurable ways of tracking participation numbers.  More participation, means more success!

What obstacles did you have to overcome to get your program started? How did you overcome them?:
One of the first obstacles to overcome,  was that our committee had no idea how to start  wellness program! However, we have a great team of co-workers who stepped up and truly integrated wellness into our organization. Working with Health Links has been an invaluable resource in creating and continuing a workplace wellness program.

Does your health and safety program help give back to your community?:
We absolutely give back to our community. In fact, we just had a team participate in Partner's Superstars; an athletic event that raises money for Mesa County's local Partner's organization. Grand Junction Housing Authority also participates in the Men in Heels race, which supports Latimer House.

What tip/advice would you give to a business that is considering starting a workplace health and safety program?:
Create a  team of employees who can give a varied perspective and spread the word about your wellness program. Get in touch with other organizations that have established wellness program, and develop a support system. Lastly, don't be afraid to try out an idea. Sometimes, the smallest efforts have the greatest results!!
