Circuit Media / Denver, CO

Certified Healthy Workplace™ Partner

Health Links (HL): Why did Circuit Media decide to join the Healthy Business Network?

Circuit Media (CM): Aside from being a great general corporate wellness health initiative, Circuit Media wanted to join because we recognized the value from an employee perspective. As a growing company in a tight market, you need to focus on what employees want – a healthy, safe workplace.

HL: How did Health Links help Circuit Media?

CM: Health Links helped us get focused. When you’re a growing company, you often have competing interests, you aren’t sure how to manage priorities, and it can become difficult to carry through on them. There is so much on your plate. Having a partner like Health Links allows us to get focused, keep focused, and stay accountable.

HL: What does being a Healthy Business mean to your organization? How does it reflect Circuit Media's values or business goals?

CM: Our values include not only being good to people and to each other, but good to our environment. There is a lot of synergy between being healthy and having a healthy world. We value health both by looking at how we treat each other and how we treat our earth and environment.

HL: How does Circuit Media create a culture of health, safety, and well-being for its employees?

CM: There is a variety of things we have in place: healthy snacks and catered lunches, easy access to plenty of water, walking meetings, standing desks, a company bike, discounts for ski tickets and gym memberships. How can we best nourish our minds and bodies to better our performance? We also pay 100% of healthcare and long-term and short-term disability. If you get sick, you aren't worried about basic necessities while you're trying to get better.

HL: What changes have you seen among your employees, their families, or the surrounding community as a result of your program(s)?

CM: I’ve noticed an increase in awareness. Once people become mindful of ways they can change, you begin to see that change manifest. And it’s a rising tide that carries into homes. If we encourage a healthy environment while we’re here, we see that move into families.

HL: Have you seen any changes in your life and personal health as a result of Circuit Media's focus on employee health and safety?

CM: My standing desk has had a huge impact. I actually don’t have an office chair and it makes my life much easier now that my Apple watch isn’t yelling at me. We aren’t meant to be sitting and sedentary. I started training my brain to think about sitting as the backwards thing. My brain works much differently when I stand versus when I sit.

HL:  How does Circuit Media engage with the community?

CM: We’re sponsors of Leave No Trace, a national organization that protects the outdoors by teaching and inspiring people to enjoy it responsibly. We have a strong belief in being good stewards of the land. We’ve invested in The Trust for Public Land, whose main mission is to make sure every person in the U.S. has a park within a ten-minute walk. We’ve also created a mindfulness campaign educating people on how to reduce paper towel usage and are working towards a B Corporation certification.
