Health Links [HL]: What does being a healthy workplace mean to your organization?

Alpine Bank [AB]: Being a healthy workplace means we genuinely value our employees. We work hard to support our employees with their individual health and wellness goals by providing a robust wellness program that suits unique needs and interests. At Alpine Bank, healthy and happy employees create a healthy and happy workplace.

HL: How does your organization create a culture of health, safety, and well-being for employees?

AB: Our wellness programs provide each employee the opportunity to improve their overall health and wellbeing. We show our employees that we care about their wellness through yearly biometric screenings, on-site flu shot clinics, providing incentives towards preventative exams, micro fit tests, subsidized gym memberships, and self-improvement classes. We also promote positive workplace culture through our online challenges such as staying hydrated, tracking steps, and losing weight.

HL: What changes have you seen among your employees, their families, or the surrounding community as a result of your program(s)?

AB: Overall, our employees report that they really enjoy our wellness programs and they strive to become healthier every year. They set new goals to eat healthier or exercise more, and we are there to support them along the way. Having a robust wellness program creates a welcoming and caring workplace culture enriching our employee’s lives. This not only affects them at work, but at home as well. Alpine Bank is also passionate about giving back to our community. We encourage employees to  volunteer for 24 hours each year at an organization of their choice.

HL: How has Health Links helped your organization?

HL: What tips or pieces of advice would you give to a business looking to create a healthier, safer, and happier environment?

AB: Make the health and wellbeing of your employees a top priority. The happier and healthier your employees are, the more productive they will be. We have found that our employees have higher job satisfaction because they know their employer cares about their wellbeing. Also, don’t let your wellness program become stagnant. Change it up occasionally to keep your employees excited about what activities come next. We all have busy lives, so keep it fun and simple!
